Kidney transplant surgery is performed under the effect of anesthesia and usually takes around two to four hours. During the surgery, the doctor makes an incision in the patient’s abdomen and places the donor kidney inside the right iliac fossa. They then connect the veins and arteries coming from the heart to the new kidney in order to start the flow of blood and also attach the new kidney’s ureter to the bladder for the urination process.
