Our Story

The iconic healthcare institution of Mumbai, Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, blessed by Mahatma Gandhi and inaugurated in 1950 by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, is now reintroduced as Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital.

Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital has been at the forefront of healthcare for 70 years. Today the 350 Beds facility housing 55 speciality departments offers a plethora of services in practically every field of modern medicine and health care. Our well-equipped hospital rooms, state-of-the-art departments and technologically advanced systems are all backed by the expertise and reputation of over 350 consultants, 100 resident doctors, 475 nursing staff and 1500 employees.

The hospital’s state-of-the-art Imaging Centre, spanning over 10,000 sq. ft, houses 3 Tesla 32 channel wide bore Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner with MR guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery (MRgFUS) and High-Intensity-Focused-Ultrasound, 64 slice Positron Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography (PET CT) with cardiac capability.

    Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital launched of Centre for Robotic Surgery at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital.

    Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital in collaboration with Parkinson's Center of Excellence, Kings College, London, launch the revolutionary treatment of Parkinson's for the first time in India - Apomorphine Pen & Pump.


  • 2017

    Shah Rukh Khan Inaugurates Centre for Haemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant.


  • 2015

    Former Union Cabinet Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri Shatrughan Sinha and Honourable Health Minister of Maharashtra, Dr. Deepak Sawant inaugurated the state-of-the-art Accident and Emergency Centre on Saturday, 5th September 2015.


  • 2014

    Abhay Soi, then Chairman - Radiant Life Care and now Chairman & MD, Max Healthcare inaugurated the new Cath lab in the presence of all the leading cardiologists and other top doctors.


  • 2008

    Hrithik Roshan inaugurated Nanavati Max Hospital's Electrophysiology and Electroacoustic Centre of Audiology and Speech Therapy Audiology Centre.


  • 2007

    A state-of-the-art Advanced Centre for Radiation Oncology (ACRO), was inaugurated at Nanavati Max Hospital. It was Mumbai's first Elekta precise digital linear accelerator with intensity modulated radiation and image guidance.


  • 2004

    Shah Rukh Khan donated a state-of-the-art medical centre in memory of his mother Lateef Fatima called Lateef Fatima Pediatric Centre.


  • 1962

    Mother Teresa inaugurated the cancer centre and brought the first child for treatment to Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital.


  • 1946

    The iconic Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital carries a luminous legacy. The hospital was founded by Ratilal Manilal Nanavati in memory of his grandfather who was the physician to the royal family of Gaekwads.
