Know More About angioplasty

What is Angioplasty?

Angioplasty is a minimally invasive, catheter-based intervention that aims at clearing any blockage or obstruction in the major arteries of the body. Arterial blockage can be a result of a variety of different factors and if not treated immediately, it can result in life-threatening consequences.

What does the procedure involve?
  • The surgical procedure is performed under the influence of anesthesia which is usually administered locally.
  • Depending on the artery that has been affected, doctors will make a tiny incision and introduce the catheter through it.
  • The catheter is then guided towards the blocked section of the artery using detailed imaging guidance.
  • A contrast dye will be injected into the patient’s body, for better imaging and assessing the inside of the blood vessels
  • Once the catheter is in position, the balloon present on its tip will be inflated to open the narrowed arterial walls.
  • The procedure can be repeated to treat multiple blockages
